Recent History of the Coral Gables Woman's Club

Pam Schaefer 2006-2007
Pam Schaefer continued her theme of “Giving the Gift of a Healthy Smile” for the Juniors. This year I was also elected President of the Coral Gables Woman’s Club. The theme I chose for the Woman’s Club was “It is Time To Get Involved!” My goal was to combine the two clubs into one. With a lot of hard work and dedication from her board she was able to accomplish this task.

We had 11 members go to Spring convention. Barbara Lapsley was installed as the new District 11 Director and Michele Collier was installed as the Junior District Director for District 11 2006-2008 years.

Pam Schaefer 2005-2006
Pam Schaefer’s theme for 2005-2006 was “Giving the Gift of a Healthy Smile.” Pam Schaefer represented the Juniors by winning a lottery ticket for the Operation Smile Mission to Fortaleza, Brazil. The mission was a success! We collected so many toys, coloring books, bubbles, crayons, stickers, lollipops and more. It was a very humbling, unforgettable experience. My job was to take photographs of before and after pictures of the children for their records. I even went into the operating room and took pictures after certain procedures were done. To see all the children along with their parents hoping desperately to be picked was very heart wrenching. But needless to say those that did get picked and had their successful surgeries are so grateful and happy. The children are just precious. It was an experience I will never forget.

We started off our 2005-2006 year by bringing in 9 new members, we participated in Help Keep America Warm Project, we helped with the Coral Gables Community Foundation auction, we collected school supplies and other things for Hacienda Girls ranch, we participated in the Susan Komen Breast Cancer Walk, we contributed to Hurricane Katrina victims, we collected items for our soldiers in Iraq, we collected for World Food Day, we held an Operation Bunko Party, we prepared 15 Thanksgiving Baskets (with the help of the Woman’s Club) for our Dental Clinic families, we collected toiletries from our travels and made over 50 bags for the Agape Women’s Center, we delivered “Books for Babies” to new mothers of North Shore Hospital and Jackson Memorial Hospital, we cleaned our Adopted Highway project (on LeJeune Road from Valencia to SW 8 Street a few times this year, we adopted a manatee, we had a wonderful Christmas party for our dental clinic children, we participated in Smart Ride for Aids, we hosted the Annual District 11 Arts Festival, we collected soup cans for “Souper Bowl” for the Miami Rescue Mission and also collected men’s sweaters for them, we helped to make women aware about their hearts by helping with Sister to Sister project, we collected business suits for Suited for Success, we collected prom gowns for Becca’s Closet, we collected cell phones, our Casino Night netted $78,000! We were given a “Proclamation from the City of Coral Gables” that every March 4th will now be known as “Give the Gift of a Healthy Smile Day”, we participated in the March of Dimes walk, and we helped the National Kidney Foundation with their auction and golf tournament. We donated over $7,000 to various charities. We provided (2) $500.00 scholarships to needful recipients from Miami Christian School.
